The concept was quickly scrapped, with Bejar later explaining in an interview with Stereogum, It wasn't a sound that really conjured up anything to anyone. Have We Met is another new departure, yet it still has that familiar strange storytelling swagger thats at the heart of Destroyer. Full Review. 5mo. Call it premature hyperbole if you will, but Have We Met is the first truly essential album to be released in 2020. Destroyer come through on their thirteenth effort in a big way, crafting an album that exists within a time vacuum one of which that could exist in nearly any era and still sound fitting. An amalgamation of synth-laced tones, layered instrumentation, slick guitar notes, and the constantly gripping performance by Dan Bejar, all the pieces of Have We Met seem to gel. I could. read more. Merge, Dead Oceans. Compared to 2017s ken, a gothic-sounding record distinguished by chillier tones and pared-down lyrics, his masterful new album Have We Met sets a larger canvas. Produced by bandmate John Collins, the music is sweeping and bold and surprising. Cue Synthesizer is the first Destroyer song to feature a prominent slap-bass part the title track is so wispy and vaporous that Bejars voice never actually appears in it
